Director of Finance and Operations

Job Summary:
The Director of Finance is responsible for all financial functions, including but not limited to budgeting, expense review, cash management, management reporting, and audit preparation.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Direct reports include Staff Accountant and Family Services team members.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Oversee/execute all day-to-day finance functions, including but not limited to payables, receivables, ReStore retail sales, and financial reporting, mortgage and promissory notes, fundraising financial activities, and grant resources;
- Oversee all fiscal reporting and maintenance of files and accounts;
- Oversee and process payroll and payroll reporting;
- Process criminal and background checks as needed;
- Assist the Executive Director in the development and implementation of organizational development programs, policies, guidelines, employee records, and documentation policies;
- Assist with recruiting and hiring of new employees and oversee new employee onboarding, orientation, and paperwork;
- Collaborate with the Executive Director in planning short and long-term financial objectives and budgeting;
- Maintain working relationships with technology vendor partners;
- Ensure timely reporting of significant financial matters to the Executive Director;
- Supervise overall affiliate budget creation and adherence t,o as well as program or department-specific budgets;
- Assist with budget creation for grant proposals and monitoring;
- Prepare monthly and ad hoc financial reports which include cash flow analysis, monthly profit and loss and balance sheet;
- Maintain banking relationships;
- Maintain control of employee credit card access, limits, and documentation;
- Maintain relationships with Habitat For Humanity International (HFHI) and other Habitat affiliates’ financial departments;
- Maintain certification as a Qualified Loan Officer;
- Reviews, refines, recommends, and develops fiscal policies and procedure,s ensuring compliance with GAAP and HFHI standards, and follows new developments, discussions, and suggestions, informing and making recommendations as deemed necessary;
- Represent Monmouth County Habitat for Humanity at events, attend conferences/trainings as needed, support the mission and programs of Monmouth County Habitat for Humanity.
- Other duties/projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of accounting/bookkeeping experience;
- Proficiency with QuickBooks online (QBO) and Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel;
- Ability to clearly and effectively communicate in a professional manner with vendors, staff, board members, families and anyone associated with Habitat for Humanity;
- Knowledge of nonprofit finance;
- Working knowledge of HR best practices;
- Certification as a Qualified Loan Officer or willingness to obtain QLO certificate within six months of hire;
- Strong analytical, quantitative problem-solving solving and technical skills;
- Ability to maintain confidential information, high ethical standards and positive attitude;
- Able to adapt to and excel in a fast-paced environment;
- Non-profit experience a plus.
