ReStores

About the Monmouth County ReStores

Our ReStores play a vital role in supporting Monmouth County Habitat for Humanity’s mission to build homes, neighborhoods, and hope. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we offer high-quality furniture, lighting, décor, appliances, building materials, and much more. These desirable items are sold to the public at a fraction of their original retail price – and every purchase directly funds our affordable housing programs.

Our ReStores are more than just shops — they’re community hubs that help people create welcoming, beautiful, and comfortable homes at budget-friendly prices.

By donating and shopping with us, our supporters champion sustainable retail. Reusing furniture, home goods, appliances, and building supplies not only reduces landfill waste but also lowers carbon emissions and gives gently used items a new life.

Together, we’re building homes – and a more sustainable future.

This decision is based on thoughtful evaluation and consideration of ongoing economic challenges. Rising retail rental costs, reduced funding for nonprofits, and a challenging economic retail environment have made it impossible to sustain operations at this location. This decision was not easy, but it allows us to focus our resources on what matters most – our affordable housing programs serving families and individuals throughout Monmouth County.

The Freehold ReStore will continue operating until Spring 2026, so please continue to support us here until the closing date is announced.

November 10, 2025 Update – Response to Social Media: Thank you all for your kind words about our staff and our store. We are grateful to be part of such a caring and supportive community. We appreciate the outpouring of concern and ideas shared by so many of you. Your comments show how much this community cares, and we do too. As many of you have noted, there are some tough realities in the world and the region that we live and operate in right now.

No one wanted this to be the decision we had to make. But as a nonprofit organization, we have to be able to cover the costs of the operations we run. The ReStores are structured to be self-sustaining operations that help to fund our affordable housing programs, but due to rising costs and a decline in retail sales, we are unable to continue at our South Street location in Freehold.

Thank you for your comments on our social media posts. We want to address some of the questions that came up.

Why don’t you just move to a cheaper location?

We have been looking for an alternative site for the Freehold ReStore for almost a year but the cost of retail space in Monmouth County has increased dramatically in recent years, and current rental prices are beyond what we can afford.  If you know of a landlord interested in helping us secure an affordable retail space, we’d love to connect. Please email: info@monmouthhabitat.org

What is happening with the Asbury Park ReStore? Will it remain open?

Many of you have asked about our Asbury Park ReStore, and we are happy to share that it will remain open and operating. Our lease is not up in Asbury Park for several years, so we will continue to operate this smaller footprint store where you can shop, donate, and volunteer.

If you would like to support our mission during this transition, we welcome donations that help sustain our affordable housing programs Monmouth County, keeping us building homes, communities, and hope for local families.
